SUSAN WRIGHT
Susan is an artist/printmaker from Halifax (UK) whose work focuses on artefacts and found objects. She uses a range of printmaking techniques which incorporate marks derived from the objects and elements of the objects themselves. The prints in this series, which were all created during the last year, have been developed from old maps and discarded fabrics. They reflect the current prevailing sense of breakdown and the need for social repair and renewal. The aluminium printing plates were etched until they were severely eroded and reached a breaking point, these were then transformed and repaired by layering, folding and sewing. The subsequent damage and manipulation transformed the plates into something new and they became a different type of artefact. The fragility of the black and white prints produced seem to offer a tentative chance of renewal.
