2022 LEEDS SUMMER GROUP SHOW

The 2022 Leeds Summer Group Show will be a physical exhibition once again! This year it is presented in association with Leeds Playhouse and will be shown in their newly refurbished building for the month of June. The open call out for artists has now closed. From 198 submissions the selection panel chose 45 artists to take part.

The exhibition is open 1 -30 June at Leeds Playhouse, 10am-5pm (excluding Sundays and bank holidays). It’s free to attend, all welcome and no booking required.

THE SELECTION PANEL

Dr Laura Claveria - a curator at Leeds Art Gallery who is responsible for the works on paper collection and the Leeds Picture Library, an art loaning scheme. She has worked in multiple galleries and museums in the North of England. Some of her recently curated exhibitions include Natural Encounters (2020), Jill McKnight: Desire Lines (2022), Charmaine Watkiss: The Wisdom Tree (2022), and Shifting perspectives: Exploring representations of people of African, Caribbean and Asian heritage in Leeds Art Gallery’s collection(2022). 

Lorna Johnson - is a Leeds based artist working across a range of materials to make sculptural objects, installations, assemblages, collage and photography. She is drawn to objects and materials that could be perceived as non-precious and uses these to explore the associations people may have with these as materials and objects. These themes are central to the research she is currently working towards a practice-led PhD at Leeds University.

Rosie Vohra - is an artist who studied at The Royal Drawing School after doing her BA in Fine Art at Leeds Arts University. She was included in the Jerwood Drawing Prize 2015, has exhibited widely and is a founding member of Leeds-based Precious Art Collective. 

Georgina Maud - is head of Arts and Creative Development for the Leeds property developers Rushbond. With a background in landscape management, art history and business, she coordinates the delivery of site-specific artistic commissions as part of development projects. She sees art as playing a pivitol role in bringing spaces to life and creating meaningful places for people and communities to enjoy. 

Court Spencer - is an Australian artist, curator and collaborator who develops cultural projects. Founder of the Leeds Summer Group Show and was the Director of Left Bank Leeds for five years, she now collaborates with clients such as Leeds Museums & Galleries, Leeds Playhouse, Sunny Bank Mills, and independent artists.
