2021 LEEDS SUMMER GROUP SHOW
The 2021 Leeds Summer Group Show is an eclectic exhibition celebrating talent across mediums, genres and locations. This is part of a series of annual summer group shows that Court Spencer has been running since 2015. Ordinarily these have been physical exhibitions but due to the global pandemic the exhibition was presented online in 2020 and 2021 with the hope that 2022 will see it return as a physical exhibition at a venue in Leeds, UK.
From an open call-out via CuratorSpace, 182 artists submitted works for the selection panel to consider. Works from 42 were selected to be included in the exhibition this year, they can be seen by clicking the link below.
THE SELECTION PANEL
Sarah Roberts - a Welsh installation artist and writer. She is a co-founder and curator of artist led projects SHELF and Hyde Park Art Club [opening June 2021], a consultant curator, and an alumnus of Leeds University and Chelsea College of Arts. Sarah has exhibited her work widely in the UK, and in Europe and now lives and works between Leeds and Mid Wales.
Nick Cass - an artist, museum educator, teacher and academic. His research is now is focussed on trying to better understand the complex relationship between contemporary art practice and heritage.
Mike Winnard - an artist and designer based in Leeds. His work mines myth, history, fiction and pop culture to explore contemporary issues. Mike is co-founder of Assembly House, an artist-led gallery and studios in Leeds which exists to nurture emerging talent.
Holly Grange - joined Leeds Art Gallery as the exhibitions curator in 2020. Prior to this she was curator of the Musgrave Kinley Outsider Art Collection at the Whitworth, gallery manager at S1 Artspace and assistant curator at the Hepworth Wakefield and Tate St Ives. Holly lives in Leeds and is currently on parental leave with her baby son Gene.
Courtney Spencer (aka court) is an Australian artist, curator and collaborator who develops cultural projects. Founder of the Leeds Summer Group Show and was the Director of Left Bank Leeds for five years, she now collaborates with clients such as Leeds Museums & Galleries, Leeds Playhouse, Sunny Bank Mills, and independent artists.
