CRITICAL MASS
ARTISTS: Eva Mileusnic and Bob Birch
CURATOR: Court Spencer
DATE: January 2019
VENUE: Left Bank Leeds
This was a city wide project by the Donut Group (an informal network of arts venues working in communities outside Leeds city centre). The artist Eva Mileusnic delivered 30 half half-day plaster casting workshops at venues across Leeds where participants learnt the basics of plaster casting and made pieces that contributed to a large-scale art installation celebrating diversity. Over 1,000 pairs of plaster ‘feet’ were made and later exhibited in as installation symbolic of the multicultural city of Leeds. In interim installation was held at Sunny Bank Mills to coincide with Heritage Open Days prior to the full installation being on show at Left Bank Leeds.
Sound artist, Bob Birch worked in collaboration with Eva to create a series of sound boxes that were activated by the movement of visitors with the sounds layering over one another to create a unique soundscape that contributed to the immersive installation.
This project was made possible with funding from Leeds Inspired and for the support of the following venues: Left Bank Leeds, Sunny Bank Mills, HEART, Hyde Park Book Club, East Street Arts, Chapel FM and Interplay.
