ABANDONED YORKSHIRE

ARTIST: Abandoned Yorkshire
CURATOR: Court Spencer
DATE: Nov 2016
VENUE: Left Bank Leeds

This was the very first exhibition by Abandoned Yorkshire, a collective of urban explorers whose work captures lost heritage and documents our changing environment. Left Bank Leeds was once an abandoned building, and made a fitting venue for the exhibition.

In a period of development, it’s easy to overlook buildings that are no longer in use but these remains give us an insight into the past. In their prime these would have been significant landmarks housing the latest in medical innovation, places of employment, picture houses, grand homes etc. Many of these buildings will be reclaimed by nature or demolished and when they’re gone these images will continue to provide a visual record of these spaces.
